Steve Urkel Killed Mr. Belvedere

There Are "Lost" Episodes

The last regular episode aired on Dec. 30, 1989, and the show vanished until the following July, when ABC aired the two-part finale, which concludes with Mr. Belvedere ending his confirmed bachelorhood and heading off to Africa with his new wife. However, ten episodes never aired on ABC, only in syndication – meaning there may yet be episodes that Belvedere superfans haven't seen.

Steve Urkel Killed Mr. Belvedere

Though it anchored a family-friendly Friday night block on ABC for years, Mr. Belvedere never aired as part of TGIF. When that branded, two-hour lineup debuted in the fall of 1989, Mr. Belvedere's final season shifted to Saturdays to make way for a new show, Family Matters. "Did I do that?" Yes, Steve. You did.

AntennaTV is airing all of the "lost" episodes. It's too bad they aren't pointing them out. They also showed the "lost" episode of Married with Children without any fanfare.

I do not see the point to advertise it. The so called "Lost Episodes" I believe have aired at least once in syndication. Most viewers have not seen any of the episodes in over 20 years. So it will be hard to remember which they never saw. New viewers will not know the difference.

Which are the "lost" episodes?

10 episodes made after the ones where he got married and moved to Africa? Interesting.

Here is the scoop
Two episodes were unaired in season 4 and moved to season 5. That means two episodes of season 5 were cut and aired only in syndication starting in 1990. The Dinner and The Attic.

When the show was cancelled a decision was made to finish the season with ten more episodes. The final two ABC agreed to air to give them a season finale. I remember at the time they moved the show from Friday's to Sunday's and the ratings fell. I remember reading an article that said ABC felt Bob and Chris were too old and weren't gearing to the demographic they wanted. I felt it was BS because I was 13 and loved the show, and my mom was well under 40 and also loved it. The ratings of the last episode were very good and may well have shown them they had made a mistake.

Anyway that left eight season 6 episodes that were shot before Belvedere married and moved away that did not air on network but only in syndication after the finale aired. They are
Love Fest
Donuts
Runaways
The Pageant
The Baby
Bad Marsha
Home
Mumsy

By the way that's a great little article. I should add here that Antenna is airing all of the episodes completely uncut. That is VERY RARE on any show. Season 5 and 6 are not on DVD and may never be. 4 is out of print and very rare. The 10 syndicated only ones are roughly 2 min shorter than all the others because normally they never show anything 24 min long off network. Nowadays they never show 24 min on network.

If this was on ANY other channel it would be cut to hell. I don't know if they will run the whole series again and if so who knows if it will be uncut. This is the first time in 20 years the series has been seen and the only time since the ABC airings that they are appearing as they were meant to be seen.

I have a dvd recorder (they copy television WAY better than a VCR) but the greedy US film and TV industry has always discouraged them and they are now hard to get domestically. Overseas in Europe and Japan they now have Blu-ray burners for television. Seriously if you are a fan of the show keep these season 5 and 6 prints somehow, buy a used DVD recorder. You will not regret it.
