Why did Wesley act like such a brat?

I know that Wesley was played very well by Brice Beckham. However, I always wondered why he acted that way. I mean was it for attention or some other reason? Yes he could be very funny at times & all but still I don't understand. I know his family loved him but they were a very busy family. I think that Brice is very cute & I'd like to hopefully meet him one day.

Just curious as to other people's thoughts on this, thanks.

Because he's a sociopath!

Edermike..I wouldn't say Wesley was a sociopath. I'd say he liked to get his parents' attention. Both his parents were busy. (George was working as a sportswriter & Marsha was always studying for law school .) So maybe Wesley was just craving attention was all.

I don't think Wesley was a sociopath. I agree with Katzi428, I think he was craving attention from his parents because they were so busy.

It's a line from the show. Wesley used it to help explain to a brooding Kevin why nothing ever bothered him. Of course Mr. Belvedere had told him that!

I don't remember the details, but Belvedere always acted like (to mimic his pronunciation) Wezley was the Antichrist.

I'm guessing it's because the Owens secretly believed that Wesley was a "mistake".
After all, George and Marsha already had a male heir and a beautiful daughter. The third pregnancy was probably an unplanned "accident".
As George was already a celebrity in the sports world, abortion or giving the baby up for adoption would have reflected negatively on his career and person.
So he and his wife put on a show of affection for their unwanted child.
But kids instinctively know when their parents are fakers, and usually become little sociopaths, like Wesley was.
However, Mr. Belvedere was under no illusions, and had no qualms about putting Wesley in his place.
If that kid grew up to be an upstanding citizen, the credit belongs to the "big guy".

I don't totally agree with you snsurone. I believe that Wesley wasn't exactly a "mistake" it's just that he was unplanned. This is explained well in the episode where Marsha thinks she's pregnant again and Wesley overhears her saying that she now has to wait another ten years to be a lawyer because she wanted to be a lawyer when Kevin and Heather were old enough. Then she had to wait because she got pregnant with Wesley.

When he hears all this, he runs away and when they find him, Marsha explains to him that when she knew she was having another baby, she was upset and angry even though it wasn't his fault. Then she goes on to say that as she got to know him, she loved him and everything was fine. I don't think his parents were faking loving Wesley. I also don't think he was a sociopath because sometimes he did end up doing the right thing. It may have taken some time but I think they honestly loved him.

Wesley acted like a brat because that's what he was--a brat. There doesn't always have to be a reason for a child to misbehave (neglected, looking for attention, etc.). Kids can grow up in a perfectly normal, loving environment with no insecurities whatsoever and still act like jerks.
