How he got the job?

I started watching the show on Antenna TV this month. I was wondering how he got the job as their housekeeper? In the synopsis it said he was going to write a novel from his daily diary, was that his reason for wanting to work for them? Seems like George would be reluctant to hire him, anyone remember the first episode?

In the pilot episode, it was a very snowy day and Mr. Belvedere showed up on the Owens doorstep inquiring about the housekeeping position. The parents initially said, "no thanks" so Mr Belvedere tries to leave but he can't because of the blizzard. So we winds up spending the day with the family and cooks for them and then they realize that he could be a good fit for the job so they keep him.

"Weren't they looking for a housekeeper?"

Yes, they were :)

I didn't understand why they were so quick to dismiss him in the first episode. I feel like they weren't even giving him a chance. He got a chance to win them over because of the blizzard. Mr. Belvedere seemed comfortable around the kids and I noticed the kids seemed comfortable around him right away. It took more time for the parents to get comfortable. I thought it was great how Mr. Belvedere learned right away what was going on with the children in only his first night there.

I think they initially dismissed him because he was a man. The parents said that he didn't really fit the profile they were looking for, which was probably an old lady. But I agree with everything you said. It was awesome how he won them over.

Very "Who's the Boss?" of the writers. The two shows were similar in many ways, of course. Role reversals were in vogue then.

It also helped that Heather was hogging the phone, because no one from the domestic agency was able to get their calls through.
