Brain Busters - writers made Wesley a total doush

We all know what a brat Wesley T. Owens has been made in the series. But, this episode went over the top. In the series, George has always tried to mold his youngest son into a fair dealer. By throwing the game in this episode, Wesley was shown as a despicable piece of garbage. Worse than we've ever seen him. I was not amused. Although the show had already jumped the shark, this episode really jumped a pile of excrement. What see ye fellow viewers?

reply

His camp counselor tried to molest him, cut him some slack.

I liked this one, it brought back the old Wesley. A lot funnier than when they try to present him more mature, and not out of character at all. Belvedere pranked him back plenty throughout the series.

Understand that in this episode, Mr. Belvedere was acting in a most obnoxious manner, answering every question and lording his superior intelligence to Wesley.
So I really can't blame Wesley for throwing the quiz--especially since it visited all sorts of humiliations on Belvedere.
But, to his credit, Belvedere was a great sport, just sitting quietly while being bombarded with chocolate syrup, whipped cream. and a cherry on top.

BTW, there was a very similar episode on I LOVE LUCY.
Must be where the producers got the idea for this episode.

reply

I agree they borrowed from 'I Love Lucy' for this one. But it works.

As for Wesley being overly obnoxious here, he does get paid back at the end by Mr. Belvedere. So it all balances out eventually.

After seeing the episode, I think it really should have been called Double Dare.
