Brice Beckham was not a very good actor in this show

Most of Wesley's lines come off like he just barely memorized what he was supposed to say and just gave a rote recitation. I understand, he was just a child, but a lot of child actors were a lot better than him.

Really? I thought Brice Beckham was simply awesome as Wesley. I thought he had great delivery, exemplary comedic timing for a child actor and was just all-around plain funny. Perhaps during his pre-teen years, some might consider his skills questionable but during the first three seasons of the show, I thought he was great.

Indeed, Brice was a million times better than the no-talent Olsen Twins on Full House.

I have to disagree with you. Brice Beckham was one of the best child actors from the 80's.

Yeah, I second that. I thought he was VERY talented !

He was an excellent Proto-Bart Simpson for his time, before the implosion of the American Family in Sitcoms. Before the Simpsons and Family Guy. Mr. Belvedere was a great TV show thanks to Beckham and the rest of the cast.

Completely agree !

Brice was one of the best child stars in history.

Also, very refreshing to see someone on the show turn out perfectly growing up. Way too often, child stars have their entire lives destroyed, when growing up.

I thought he did a great job as Wesley.

reply

Disagree. His deadpan delivery and dry wit were what made him so funny.

Brice was great, especially the first four years. The whole cast was good, but he and Chris were what made the show so subversively funny. Excellent actor and still is.

well said Brice Beckham was great.

Brice was so wonderful on the series, he was so funny and expressive.

You can add me to the list of people who think Brice was great! Wish he'd do another show as an adult. I wonder if he'd be hilarious in that too - but I'll always have a place in my heart from when he played Wesley perfectly.

Officer Krupke, what are we to dooooo?!?
Gee, Officer Krupke -- KRUP YOU!!!

I beg to differ, I think Brice was great for a child actor. He had great comedic timing and he was able to deliver same adult lines pretty well too without coming off weird. Also, Brice had great facial expressions and had range too. However, I do respect your opinion though.

I have to go with the congregation - Beckham was a very good child actor.

I loved that Wesley remained a bratty child throughout the show (although admittedly I missed the last two years). But he was still likable. He behaved like a child and his line readings were funny with sarcasm dripping from many of his lines. He and Christopher Hewett had terrific comedic chemistry. I loved how they got on each other's nerves. They were definitely "frenemies" and their back and forth drove the show and was one of its best parts.

I think the show still holds up because of that biting wit. And Beckham was a big reason why the show worked.

Brice Beckham was ridiculously talented. He stole every scene he was in. The chemistry between him and Mr. Belvedere was outstanding. One of the most perfect combinations in sitcom history!

Not to pile on with "I thought he was great too," but I thought he was great too. He's probably one of the only child actors I not only tolerated, but actually enjoyed watching. Most of them are untalented, excessively artificially cute, or some combination thereof. Few kids could pull out that diabolical expression like Beckham could. Like someone else here said, he stole the show when he was on screen.
