Hey did anyone else watch this??

I can't believe theres no chat on here. I used to love Misfits of Science when it was on the Sci-fi channel in England. Did anyone else watch this???

reply

Here's a "Misfits"' fan from Argentina. I really enjoyed this series while it lasted... and I had a huge crush on Courteney Cox as Glo Dinallo. Boy, how this woman has improved with time. She's gorgeous now. Lucky guy, David Arquette :-)

(I hate "Friends", but I enjoyed greatly her performance of the bitchy reporter in the "Scream" movies.)

I used to watch this all the time. Sadly I was only 8 years old when it came out, so I only have vague memories of it. I just thought I might want to look it up here, so I did.

"It entered our airspace last night, and made a mockery of our intercept squadrons."

reply

That is exactly the same as me. I only remembered the title and that I thought it was the best. I'm just wondering where I can watch online or if they have it on dvd.

reply

Blimey I know you posted this a long time ago, But when you said Sadly I was only 8 years old when it came out, so I only have vague memories of it. I remember a'lot at 8 so confused

I could understand if you were 3 having vague memories, My first proper memories was when I was 3 onwards

reply

Misfits rocked, you're not the only one. I used to be allowed to stay up late friday nights when it originally aired in the 80s. I wanna know when the hell they're gonna put out a DVD? Every crap show on the planet that I would never want has beat them to it and now the market is flooded.

reply

Hopefully they will release it, I did buy DVDR copies of the series (all 17 episodes off ebay) and have the film on video, the pictures pretty good considering its age and that you'd only be able to get it from a TV recording. Plus the fact that Courteney Cox stars in it they might try and use her as a marketable commodity for the film.

reply

I too, would love to see this on DVD. i agree 100 percent with all the crap shows put onto DVD while other great shows aren't. i was young too when this show aired and remember very little.

reply

i remember the film but no one else i know has seen it, i didnt know there was a series aswell

reply

I have them all on dvd. Let me know if I can help anyone out with them.

reply

I was young when it came out, but I recall liking it. I only remember a couple of episodes like the one with the Iceman. What exactly was Courtney Cox's power? I remember it being sort some sort of psychic ability.

reply

Her power is what I think is called Telekinisis. She could manipulate and move things with her mind. I remember watching about half of the episodes in '85 then it disappearing. I caught up with it later on the SCIFI channel. And of course, yes I too had a huge crush on Courtney Cox....around the same time as I had the hots for Alyssa Milano and Madonna. Anyhow, yeah this should so be on DVD...!!! I mean if the stupid MAN SHOW from comedy central is on dvd then what the hell!!!

Was this the show where they could shrink life size cars down to a miniaturized size?

reply

Nope, they did have a scientist who could cause himself to shrink but not any cars.

I'm assuming you're in the UK? They used to release a lot of American Series over here as films. Essentially a compilation of some of their best episodes or where a story arc went over more than one. Also happened with stuff like Battlestar Galactica.

I think the sci fi channel actually ran the full tv series. Might still do.

reply

Yep! I saw it back in '85 - it stuck with me but I just recently was able to figure out what the show was called and check out where the cast is now.

I wish they would run it on Sci-Fi or Spike in the US.

Same with Time Trax...

I loved this show. I don't understand why it didn't last. I would love to see it on DVD someday.

reply

It didn't last because it was badly written and poorly advertised. Don't get me wrong: I loved this show and ALWAYS believed it had tremendous potential, but the stories were all filled with holes and moments where you scratch your head and wonder "Well, why didn't they just...?"
I think if it had been renewed for a second season, they might have found their stride and started to make the stories and powers more cohesive. But a teen-oriented sci-fi adventure show (particularly on such a limited budget) is not an easy sell.

*sigh* nobody's gay for Mole Man...

I remember this coming on friday nights when i was a kid, it was a little cheesy but in a good way. Both Dean Paul Martin (Dean Martins son) who was the leader of the group, and Kevin Peter Hall (the 7 foot black dude who could shrink) died! Just read their bio's on here, thats so sad!

reply

I remember watching a few times. I thought the show was totally awesome. I liked how they developed their powers, like Dr. Lincoln canshrink from 7' down to 7".

I think the main actors who really skyrocketed since then were Kevin Peter Hall, Courteney Cox, and Max Wright.

reply

I loved this show! I was a kid (11 or 12) when it was on and I used to watch it religiously! I was crushed when it went off the air. I even wrote a letter to the network asking them to put it back on.
My mother told me that it was too different and unique and strange to last long on network television.
Oh, boy though, did I have a huge crush on Dean Paul Martin! I was so upset when I read that he had died. It wasn't until then that I even knew who his Dad was.

I was 15 when this aired, and loved it. Of course it was cheesy, poorly written and poorly acted, but that's TV in the eighties. Hell, that's TV in general. One thing I remember quite specifically was one episode in which Dr. Lincoln shrank down and got stuck crawling through a hole in the wall. The rest of the group was trying to get him out before he reverted to normal size.

I spent the next couple of days tortured by my extremely overactive imagination. You see, I never caught the end of the episode (power went out). I knew he got out, because this was kiddie-fare TV, like Knight Rider and Dukes of Hazzard, but the concept creeped me out badly.

The other thing I remember from Misfits of Science was thinking that Johnny B. was the coolest human being on the planet after the pilot episode. Watching him absorb electricity from the generators at the power plant and firing it back at approaching bad guys, all the while singing "Johnny Be Good", was just so cool to a 15 y/o geek.

I watched this when I was about thirteen and I was immediately head over heels for b-man.But that put aside I was really into the telekinesis-thing. I tried to move things with my mind ofcourse and ofcourse nothing moved(duh!)but my imagination made up for it all!
My favourite episode is "your place or mayan",with dean devlin! Was I surprised when I found out about him writing independence day!
Couldn't we try and write to all the actors's message-boards and plead for the release on dvd?? And not just regioncode 1 but also a european version??
I'll try and send an email to the tv-stations here.Who knows, huh?

reply

I remember the show, it was great then, but campy like Knight Rider now. I was 14 when the show came out. There was a huge to do about the theme song, which was sung by Cindi Lauper, who was riding her wave of popularity then. I remember staring at Courtney Cox, I remember the Johnny B playing his guitar and had the cord plugged into his mouth for the power (note - no amp), the frozen guy, and the shrinking man.

Good stuff.

I used to watch this, pretty good show. No off the wall shows like that anymore. Everything is just the same, with a new wrapper these days.
