The worst episode of the series

You can keep your Empty Nests and Fiddler on the Ropes and all the others, my vote for worst episode goes to Dateline: Miami, the Dorothy/Sophia flashback was touching but otherwise I just don't care for it.

reply

For me, it would either be "The Days and Nights of Sophia Petrillo" (unwatchable) or the Bob Hope episode (absurd).

reply

I have to admit though, at the beginning of the Bob Hope episode when that big guy was singing Puff the Magic Dragon, the look on their faces was hilarious. Especially Dorothy.

reply

LMAO. the absurdity of that scene is hilarious.

The Heart Attack and The End of the Curse

Mr. Terrific.

What a loser.

I hated:
Blanche's Little Girl- (so over the top, even for a sitcom)
High Anxiety-(again, so over the top & full of drug treatment inaccuracies & vicious judgements)
You Gotta Have Hope- (as another person commented, it was an absurd episode. And Bob Hope was about as wooden and amusing as tree bark.)
72 Hours- It seemed like whenever an episode focuses too heavily on Rose, it gets more draggy & wildly overwrought than a soap opera.
Little Sister- The way the Girls idiotically refuse to believe Rose about her evil sister makes this one unwatchable.

I'd say this cloud is Cumulo Nimbus.
Didn't he discover America?
Penfold, shush.

Excepting Empty Nests, it might have to be the Grab That Dough episode. Some interesting lines, but they spent a fortune on last minute airline tickets to go to what was obviously a cheesy gameshow where it was unlikely they'd win much money?

reply

Good call on the 'Dough' episode.
Not to mention the huge 'unlikelies' we saw, such as there are NO free hotel rooms in the entire city?!
Who's visiting the city, Jesus Christ Himself?!

What game show tapes live?

How could none of the Girls hear or feel their purses being stolen?
And these are not teenagers visiting 'the Big City' for the first time.
Most people would know to sleep with their purses tucked away or locked in the hotel safe.

I don't think it taped live. Game shows like Jeopardy! and Wheel of Fortune tape a week's show in one day (two in the morning, lunch break, then three in the afternoon) and leave room for commercials, like the host saying "We'll be back after these messages."

WHOOOA.

Grab That Dough is awesome - the look on the ladies' faces when they lose is priceless.

different strokes i guess :p

reply

"Grab That Dough!" is an excellent episode! I saw the taping of it, and the studio audience was laughing so hard
("Pregnant!"), that the actors couldn't continue to their next line. Hilarious. Also, TV Guide gave it a mention the
night it aired, pointing out how funny it was.

I went to several tapings of GG - good and bad - and none of them stopped the show like this one.

reply

I don't know the name of it, but never cared for the Blanche and her granddaughter in the talent show. I felt bad for the kid. Then Blanche embarrassed herself.
Plus, never cared for the Stan episodes.

reply

That was beauty and the beast that actress who played her granddaughter was the winner of the voice back in may

reply

dizkman-1, Stan wasn't in the "Beauty and the Beast" episode.

Burstynfan-1, her name is Alisan Porter, who, incidentally, I saw as 'Bebe' in the Broadway revival of A Chorus Line ten years ago. Curly Sue is also a favorite holiday movie of mine.

.

reply

dizkman didn't say stan was in the beauty and the beast episode... he just said how he never cared for episodes with stan was in. this IS a thread about the worst episode of the series.

Oh God. Fortune vomits on my eiderdown once more.

reply

The episode with Rita Moreno.

reply

I SO agree! She overacts, the whole plot makes no sense (What, he's the only doctor in Miami?) and the Multiple personality character was so insensitive.

A daffy woman constantly strives to become a star.

reply

YES! That is the worst episode of the series! It really wasn't a Golden Girls episode. I understand they were trying for a spin-off at the time...but geez that was terrible. To this day, I won't watch that episode.

Disagree on "Bringing up Baby", a truly hilarious episode. It was refreshing to have a NON-PREACHY, straight-in-
your-face sitcom script.

DOROTHY: "Oh, no, unless you count the fact that every time he burps, it smells like four burning tires."
