DVDs!!!

I have bad bootleg DVDs that are better than this set. I can't for the life of me figure out why BBC let them release these, instead of releasing it themselves. Until I lucked into finding the second set today, I had no idea that BBC DIDN'T release the tapes - it's the same Canadian company that released the video boxed set (which was crummy and short 7 episodes).

The sound is bad (though I knew it would be) but I can overlook that. For a long time I thought that the sound was awful on the videos, merely because they weren't mono compatable (I didn't get a hi-fi VCR until right before I got a DVD player). I suppose the picture quality could be worse (like the "Sports Night" discs), but it bothers me that there's video glitches here and there. But my big gripe is...

They've CUT the damn episodes. In the middle of each episode, it goes to an "End of Part One," "Beginning of Part Two" screen-card. Not on the discs! Instead, they lopped those off, which screws with the music and makes the scenes jerky. You don't cut something out of an official DVD release (unless, like Ab Fab, there's problems getting rights to something...).

I'm glad to have 6 of the 7 that I hadn't seen, but annoyed that they put less effort into the discs than the cru mmy video set... BBC, please release this yourselves in production order in one AFFORDABLE set (like Ab Fab)!
