WELCOME BACK, DEMPSEY

ALL systems are go for a revival of popular Eighties TV police drama Dempsey And Makepeace.

Actor Michael Brandon, 61, who played Dempsey in the show, which ended in 1986, tells us: “We’ve got a script now and it’s going to be happening very soon. We’re very excited about it.”

Youthful-looking Michael was accompanied by his equally well-preserved wife and Dempsey And Makepeace co-star Glynis Barber, 51, to an evening of fashion, art and food to celebrate the 25th anniversary of London’s Bombay Brasserie.

“We’ve been coming here 20 years,” he added. Glynis and Michael married in 1989 after meeting on the show about a brash New York policeman working with an aristocratic British female detective but the revival will continue the will-they, won’t-they get together storyline of the original.

“Dempsey and Makepeace won’t be married. We want to have the same kind of tension between them as we take their story 20 years on,” added American Michael, who ascribes his youthful looks to “running, working out and keeping up with my young kid” – their son Alex,14.

OK I had a quick look around the internet and I cannot seem to find anything about the alleged new series. Surely, if back in early 2007 there were press releases like this then there must be more information on it by now. Actually forget that, the series should have been made by now and we should be discussing series 2 at least.

Does anybody know what on earth is going on with Dempsey And Makepeace - the remake?

Thanks.
