How did it end?

I remember loving this show as a kid, but I have no recollection of how it ended? Can anyone tell me?

Thanks

Hi. The final episode of "Dempsey and Makepeace" was called 'Guardian Angel'. It was especially significant because it was directed by Michael Brandon (Dempsey). Makepeace resigns from the police force following witnessing Dempsey's near-fatal shooting. It takes the hit-and-run of a friend of Makepeace's to make her realise that she's a full-time cop. I hope this is useful jgd1.

Did I miss something - like, a whole season? My memory is that the corrupt NYPD Captain, who had forced Dempsey to come to London back in the pilot episode, decided it was time to finish him off. Makepeace was kidnapped as bait to lure Demspey to his death, but Dempsey turned the tables, rescued her and proved the Captain was a crook. One of the London cops observes that he can go home now, 'There's no reason for him to stay.' The Superintendent looks over at Dempsey talking to Makepeace and says, 'Oh, yes there is.' I am certain this was the end of the last episode we saw in Australia, and I remember being pleased that for once a show had ended by wrapping up all the storylines (without taking the Blake's Seven option of killing off the whole cast). Did we get ripped off a season?

you must have missed some episodes daveapps, as the final episode did involve makepeace resigning and taking a job at the natural history museum! her replacement joyce (who was played by kate o'mara), who had been behind a desk for too long ended up ignoring dempseys pleas to stay in position and was hit by a car. dempsey didnt get on her with her and tried his best to get makepeace back using joyces injuries as a reason to return.thankfully she agrees to help dempsey "just once". however, although we all know it was the final episode now, the last 2mins or so indicated that the story was still open should LWT decide to make another series.

Dont get mad, get everything!

I reply approx. 6 years too late but I believe the episodes were not shown in a same order in different countries. In Scandinavia where I originate BURNING 1 and 2 (Coltrane's return) were the last episodes, but in Wikipedia it is stated that GUARDIAN ANGEL with Kate O'Mara was the last.

So there is NO resolution, if one means the outcome of Dempsey's and Makepeace's relationship. The ending of Burning 2 is more reflective while Guardian Angel's is pretty much them being stuck in a rut.
