The Colbys on dvd???

Next month Dynasty Season Six is being released on dvd. I am so glad that it seems that the series will eventually all be on dvd. I can not wait to see the episodes with Charlton Heston that will spin off Dynasty II: The Colbys. I am hoping that will mean that eventually mean The Colbys will be coming to dvd. Especially for the first year of the show I loved it almost as much as Dynasty. We will see.

I'm hoping it will be released too. If you don't already know about the site, go to tvshowsondvd.com and cast a vote for THE COLBYS to be released.

My heart is a bargain today. Will you take me?
I'll take you - and how.

reply

No I did not know about that sight. Thanks a lot and yes I have cast a vote for The Colbys.

On May 12, 2015, Shout! Factory will release "The Colbys: The Complete Series" on DVD in Region 1 for the very first time. The 12-disc set will feature all 49 episodes of the series as well as all new cast interviews.

I pre-ordered mine from Shout Fact and am watching it now. Hooray!

How are the DVD extras (the interview with John James, Maxwell Caulfield and Stephanie Beacham)?

reply

There are two--one on Disc 11 and one on Disc 12--but really they are just a extension of the same interview. One is "The Colbys of California" and the other is on "Sibling Rivalry" (about the Jeff vs Myles thing). I found the first part more interesting--about the creation of the series, their individual auditions (Ha! One of the casting producers had seen Maxwell Caulfield performing nude in a play and roughly based the character on him, with the initial drafts calling Myles "Max"), the money spent on making the show, the big stars in the cast, etc. John James also tells what he thinks would have happened in the third season and says what he thinks the writers were going for with the UFO thing at the end of season 2 (hint: it was NOT a literal UFO abduction). Both were interesting and I was glad for some extras, but I found them a little on the light side. Golly I HOPE they do a DYNASTY: THE NEXT GENERATION-type series and they import some COLBYS over like they did in the last season of DYNASTY. Stephanie Beecham's Sable is just sooooo delightful.

Thanks. I'll have to check it out.

Yes, I remember TV Guide initially reported that Miles was to be called "Max" but they changed the name to avoid confusion with Maxwell Caulfield. Francesca was originally going to be called Anthea.

Was the abduction going to be blamed on post partum psychosis? Jeff mentioned that Fallon had it after L.B. was born. Or did it have something to do with the EMOS Project that Colby Industries was working on?

it's not like my mother is a maniac or a raving thing. She just goes a little mad sometimes.

reply

Neither guess is correct...but one is a little closer to what James says he thinks was going to happen than the other. Think about Fallon when the show began. That's your clue. Is this out yet? If it's not out now--it will be any day. You'll see for yourself.

Cheers!

I talked in january 2015 (the day when the interview was recored for the DVD) with John James and Pamela Sue Martin about that story-line of the "abduction".
I came up with idea that Fallon (Pamela Sue Martin) run into a car (hit her head) in "Dynasty" and this "abduction" was only a post traumatic issues.

John James said: this is a VERY interesting idea and could be realistic.

@kga58: EMOS project could be interesting too. maybe they have abducted her to get information about Denver Carrington's Enterprises.
