Rowan's Changing Look in I + II

I have to say, comparing Rowan Akinson's look between the first two series is pretty jarring. In the first, he's got the scrawny weasel look with bulging eyes and he's always so fidgety. In II he's thickened up a bit, he's more intelligent and he even looks a borderline attractive, certainly more attractive than any of the other Blackadders.

Almost 4 years late to this thread - nice Kramer quote username BTW - but I agree, Atkinson definitely looked best in series II and it was certainly that villainous style of beard trimming that gave him the swashbuckling antihero look which worked so well.

So, nothing to do with Ben Elton reversing the roles of Edmund and Baldrick (who was smart in Series 1).

Naturally, but his appearance was part of that. Plus Rowan was trying on too many personalities in series 1, what with writing as well.

I remember watching Series 1 and 2 on A & E, when I was in college. I saw Series 2 first, then they repeated 1 and I wasn't quite sure it was the same actor, until I watched an entire episode. He really looked different in those two series. I always thought Atkinson looked pretty dashing in Series 2.

Fortunately, Ah keep mah feathers numbered for just such an emergency!

Rowan was such a babe in Series 2 (sighs)

Well, they could not make the show go on without some changes, on one hand. That would have been boring.
On the second hand, they did not call it "Renaissance" for nothing: yes, the bearded and leathered look is the sexiest one. And the character has got the attitude that meets the look too.

Christmas Black Adder goes back to the first season vibes, with the slight difference that Edmund is supposed to be a good man, opposite to his ancestors...
And Goes forward is the most ironical season, with the reflection about who would have noticed a mad man (he pretended to be) amongst all the others. A sexy look would not have done the job as well, imho.

I know one or two people that have found the sardonic Edmund II rather sexy...
