Dalgliesh's on again, off again cold

One thing that always bothered me about this particular production was the fact that Roy Marsden obviously had a bad cold during parts of the filming. His voice is noticeably hoarse in several of the scenes, mainly the ones filmed at the cottage. As the scenes were not filmed in sequential order (as they are not for most movies and TV shows) you end up with him sounding hoarse one minute and perfectly fine the next. It stands out a mile and I am finding it very distracting as I rewatch the series now, just as it did when I saw it many years ago.

I agree. When you look away, you could not even tell it was him speaking.

I don't think the "Dalgliesh" character (as well as Roy Marsdon) ever fully clicked with the public. Why the BBC kept pushing it with variation after variation I can't understand.

I noticed it after the rescue from the Black Tower and put it down to smoke inhalation.

What struck me was that despite the phones being cut off, Millicent obviously managed to phone the Police so that they could arrive just too late at the very end.
