From Why Me? The Harmon-Stallings divorce

I'm new to this message board thing, so here goes:
I too am a huge fan of the 1984 movie Why Me? I've seen it in 1984, and again when they reran it. I too want to get a copy of it. I just devoured the paperback, and it is just about as close to accurate with the movie. I loved Armand Assante in the movie (I love anything he does), but I actually liked the real James Stallings from the book. He seemed so real, and full of compassion. Assante's portrayal was good, but he came across as arrogant, especially in the beginning. As the movie went on, I grew to love him. I was so happy to learn they married and she became his nurse when he started his own practice in Des Moines, but I was saddened to learn they divorced? They seemed so deeply in love in the book. What went wrong? I also learned he committed suicide when he became ill with Epstein Barr. What a sad ening for a brilliant man? I bet she was devastated by that news! So I guess I am wondering, does anyone know what happened to them after they married and moved to Des Moines? I can't believe they fell out of love, they had such a powerful chemistry/relationship, at least that was my impression from the book.

He cheated on her with one of the nurses in his practice. He divorced Leola and married the other one.

"C'mawn, fat boy! I'm taking you back to my own private zoo!"
