Weekend Pass theme song has stuck in my head ever since

The main song to this movie has stuck into my head ever since I first saw the previews on TV when I was 12 years old. I do not know the lyrics but just Weekend Pass. LOL If I only had a Weekend Pass.

It was a good song to a good opening, but then half way through the movie the whole movie thing just fell flat.

Yes it was a good song all right! That song has stuck in my head since 1984 when I saw this advertised on TV. I remember wanting to go see this, but I did not get to see it until my father rented the old Beta version of this film for me to watch I believe it was. Ever since watching this film I have loved it! Possibly it could be remade. The problem is that if they did remake this classic it would no longer be done in San Diego, California because that Recruit Training Command has been shut down since the late 90's I believe. The remake would have to be done in North Chicago or the surrounding area of Chicago. That is the only Recruit Training Center left for the Navy. They even closed down Orlando, Florida which was a brand new naval base. When I was stationed at Great Lakes for 2 years on active duty the Rear Admiral she was giving Great Lakes a face lift. It looks different now than what it did 10 years ago.

Oh, I understand why you like the movie so much. You served! :-)

I think the appeal for me was that we got to see all of Los Angeles through their eyes. It's actually a pretty good eighties time capsule movie.Especially the songs throughout the movie.

My only reservation was the movie started out as a irreverent comedy and then somewhere in the middle (with the humiliating experience in the comedy club) it got unfunny. Then it spiked up again towards the end. Perhaps they should have modeled themselves after movies like "Stripes". In any event, I enjoyed the movie and gave it a 7 out of 10.

Yes it was beautiful seeing the scenery of Los Angeles and where they started the film at is where exactly I marched and was dropped onto the grinder. So it brought back some memories for me. Yes it was a very good time capsule all right. I have to agree with you there about that.

I know what you mean about when one of the sailors was trying to be a comedian and just bombed at it. That was not a very good point in the film at all. I loved the music that played throughout the movie as well. They sure do not make films like this anymore these days.

Yeah, it became what I call awkward in the middle, but that kind of adds to it's low budget charm.
I like WP most for it's 80's "feel", it really brings me back to 1984, a memorable year when I was a teen.
