Just how long IS this film?

.

The figures I have seen are ninety-three minutes, one hour and forty-two minutes and, finally, two hours and ten minutes.

The only version I know of is 1 hour and 42 minutes.

I don't have my DVD with me and can't give you the exact running times, but I do know that the english version has a different running time than the synchronized german one. There's big changes and small ones, one that comes to mind is the scene where Atrejus horse (Artax?) drowns in the swamps of sadness. In one version there's a shot of the mud emitting a couple of air bubbles after he went down, in the other one the mud is still. They also differ in soundtrack in that very scene and in many others.

The 2001 DVD says 92 minutes.
Is there not a scene where the elf lady seems to hit on Atreyu in a creepy way, or am I thinking of another movie?

reply

The back of the case of the Blu-Ray copy I ordered says "94 mins". Look towards the bottom of the image within the following hyperlink ->

Remember that US and European versions are usually different by a few minutes because one runs faster than the other. I forget which. I don't see any markings on your BR that makes it European though, just saying.

Makes me wonder if the people who released it in the US required the film to be close to 90 mins, so scenes were cut. It's a kid's movie and the shorter a movie is, the more times it may be able to play in the theater each day aka hoping for more money.

Yep. The copy is, in fact, a Region 1/NTSC release of The NeverEnding Story.

Here is the "2h 10m" figure, by the way -> http://tinyurl.com/zo47uw4.

I imagine a longer version of the film would have somewhat ameliorated its status in the minds of fans who are unhappy with the adaptation not covering the entirety of the novel it was based on.
