Favorite Scene

When I was a kid and in love with this movie, my favorite scene had to have been when Hillary's boobs lit up. Made any adolescent boy like myself very happy.

definately the east german national anthem.

I just watched it again on cable tonight. I had forgotten how funny this movie was. The part where they are trying to break into the prison and the guards do nothing when they hear odd noises cracked me up. My daughter couldn't stop laughing at the scene where Nick is trying to break out of his cell and his head comes out of the toilet. There are too many scenes to count that crack me up. :)

Too friggin' many to list...I've always liked one of the understated ones. The papers have been checked at the East German border, then it cuts to a shot looking out Nick's train window. The soldiers are standing on the platform, point to someone outside, and movement begins. It looks like the train is moving, but it is actually the station moving.

My favorite part was the ballet scene where it all seems normal until the men come out wearing ballet tights with huge bulges between their legs..... I can't help but laugh every time I even think about it.

That one of the train station leaving is hillarious, the way Nick paints the trees because the train is moving and how a man is late for his ride on a tree. There are a lot of scenes I loved and cracked me up, I'd say 99% of the movie.

Dr. Flammond: "They are holding my daughter and they'll kill her unless I complete the Polaris mine by sunday."
Nick: "Sunday? That's Simchas Torah."

But even better is when Nick tells the French Underground crew that Dr. Flammond is to complete the Polaris mine by Sunday. Everyone reacts and there's this commotion and you can hear someone in the background (possibly Chocolate Mousse) say "Simchas Torah!"

Brilliant!

I've loved this film for years, it really has to be the best spoof ever. So many funny scene's too, from all those listed above to some of the lesser noticed ones, Like when trying to flee the ballet hall and Nick opens the Janitors cupboard and the Janitors just stood in there, then they find a 'Prop Room' and its a room full of Propellors from planes.

Glad to see i wasn't the only one who also liked the 'Mr rivers, it seems you have become, how do you say... Indespensible?' 'Indespensible' line :)

parachuting out the plane with a duty free bag, Chocolate mousse eating his cigar and drinking Gasoline. The beach house made of Dried seaweed and snot, The huge pigeon statue with the men peeing on it, then it does a huge dump :D

So much! Classic movie!

reply

Yes, opening the door that sez "Janitor" only to find -- what else-- a janitor! That's the type of tiny bit that helps make this film a giant satyre.

reply

Weird Al Yankovic does an homage to that in UHF when the bad guys open the "supplies" closet only to find a group of Japanese karate students yell, "Supplies!" (surprise).

reply

I also like the "indespensible" scene and basically the entire der Pizza Haus
"How do we know he's NOT Mel Torme?"

I like any time Nick sings; he nailed down a pretty good Ricky Nelson impersonation.
The song where he keeps finding suicide props is almost as good as Weird Al's "One More Minute."

Hillary and Nick exchanging their childhood stories is great, too

"What a relief, I thought I was back in school."

Top quality movie.

Love the singing horse,

Nick: what are you drinking?
Chocolate Moose "Gasoline, mwah ha ha"

Playing naughts and crosses on the window in the shoot out.

So many funny moments.

It surprises me how few people have mentioned Sven Jorgensen's bookshop.

An entire scene filmed in reverse... I can't imagine how difficult that had to have been for the three actors (the dog's part was relatively straightforward) who did the scene in ONE TAKE. There is not one cut, the whole thing is one smooth camera motion from the time they walk in the door (the last part of the scene when filmed) to when they slide UP the fire pole to the attic.

By far my favorite scene in this movie and comes up whenever my friends and I discuss great scenes.

reply

Why hasn't anyone mentioned the funniest exchange in the film?

"Give me the back-half!"
"Fine! Be an a**hole!"

reply

im only 21 so i didnt grow up on this movie, but real genius and top secret are on my top 10 funniest movies list.

anyway, the first time i saw top secret the scene that left me dumbfounded was the BACKWARDS LIBRARY SCENE... how insane was that??

The scene where Latrine makes his first appearance is the best. Cracks me up everytime when Du Quois yells: "Latrine!" =)

reply

I love this entire movie, but the scene that cracks me up the most is when Nick is telling Hilary everything that's happened & she says "I know. It all sounds like some bad movie". Pause, then Nick & Hilary look into the camera at the audience. It is absolutely hilarious.

I stiil remember the scene where the cientist was digging a tunnel with a spoon in order to escape and when they show the tunnel through the tiny hole in the floor it apeears a huge lightning tunnel with three roads for each side!
Really funny
