Lived Next Door

My family and I were living in New Orleans at the time ''Tightrope'' was being filmed. In fact alot of the Garden District shots were next door to us off of Henry Clay Ave, near St. Charles where the trolley runs. Well, most of the filming was done at night, and we would sit out on the steps and watch the ''action''. My wife was a funiture upolsterer, and she was from Germany and did everything by hand, the sewing, cuting, all of it. Well one day Clint Eastwood came into the shop (garage), and said ''your work is wonderful, you need to come to California'', I can help get you started''. Well, life is not like the movies, it never came to pass, but life has been good we can't complain. Also, we have great memories. We also can say, Mr Eastwood is a true gentleman, and a class act, down to earth in every sense of the word.

This is a really interesting and great post. It's what the IMDB is all about!

I on the other hand believe every word. I met him twice when he was in New Orleans filming Tightrope.
Once at Dooky Chase restaurant and once at the now defunct Tyler's Beer Garden. He was a regular and liked the the guy playing on jazz sax bagpipes (James Rivers www.jamesriversmovement.com) performing so much he invited him to play on several subsequent soundtracks including The Bridges of Madison County and Eastwood After Hours at Carnegie Hall. James is a long time friend of mine.

Movie stars come to New Orleans to film movies and live because people here don't bother them. We see them at the grocery store or out at a music club and generally just smile at them. We don't hound them for autographs or pictures. We let them be. No one mobs Brad and Angelina when they are out and about.

I'll bet it was James Rivers playing on the tune, "Big Fran's Baby" in the film, "Perfect World." It was composed by Clint Eastwood & Lennie Niehaus and features a sound I hadn't figured out until you mentioned jazz sax bagpipes.

reply

I don't know, but I most certainly will ask James this week.

reply

Of course, Rivers also plays the lead saxophone on the Tightrope soundtrack.

reply

He does indeed. Added post production according to JR.

reply

I asked JR and he confirmed it is indeed he.
