Clint's best work as an actor

Without question.

It's in my top five. Eastwood is terrific here stepping out of his comfort zone. Very good movie, but pretty disturbing stuff, though.

I would also put The Beguiled up there, he was excellent in that and again playing against type.

I'd probably choose In the Line of Fire, but this would be pretty close.

Looked like the same aloof, stone-faced old Clint to me - except in somewhat more unusual surroundings. Whatever more dangerous undercurrents there were supposed to be in his character, they sure failed to become apparent in his acting. Frankly, it didn´t look like he was even ´trying´ to stretch himself as an actor there.

It's called subtlety, or under-playing.

Or maybe you have no taste.

What is? Certainly nothing Eastwood did there.

I believe he lobbied quite hard through the studio to try to have the film considered for an an Oscar nomination. All to no avail. I thought it was his performance between The Beguiled and Unforgiven.
