Why keep the killers face hidden?

I didn't quite get why they kept the killers face hidden throughout the whole movie. After he tore the mask of him in the end it was a bit anticlimactic. Nobody knows who this guy is. Maybe the film maker should watch an episode or two of Scooby Doo to understand the whole concept of taking the mask off the killer for the surprise.

Well in the beginning of the movie you can kinda see his face even though it's dark and another scene he's wearing clown make up, no mask. But I get what you're saying.

Y'know, I could eat a peach for hours

I was hoping it was because there'd be a big shock reveal, like a superstar actor back then known for playing goodguy or comedy roles (i.e. Roger Moore, Charles Bronson, Mister Rogers LOL). Wouldn't that have been cool, he pulls the mask off and the rapist-killer is... Bill Murray!

The point was to make him look similar to Block: graying hair and all. Only right there you get that (and so does Block).

To drive the point home that there's really not that much difference between the two.

You see his face at the very beginning.
