8 out of 11????

Am I the only one seeing this in the movie's rating? What kinda rating system is that?

reply

Well, this one goes to 11.

Good one.

Of course, this message is directed at beermonkey AND IMDB.

They made it back to out of 10. Too bad.

Cardboard Box is the Future.

reply

And now it's back to 11.

Someone who watched the movie finally beat some sense into the admin who insisted it had to be 10.

reply

Now that I actually voted on the movie it jumped to a 10-point scale.

Frowny face.

If you log out of IMDB though it will show an 11 point scale.

reply

It shows 8.0/10 on the ratings page. It's a standard chart that they can't alter for just one movie. I've seen the flip-flop on the main page in the past few days since SPINAL TAP showed up in the Thursday New York Times crossword puzzle of April 2. The clue is:

"Titular rock band whose film's IMDb rating goes up to 11 rather than 10."

But not where it counts:

I have to assume you are joking or being sarcastic. If you were being genuine then you must be in your early teens and don't know any better.
Or you haven't seen the movie and therefore understood that IMDB can actually have a sense of humour too - and you still don't know any better.
If you have seen the movie and you are old enough to know better then you take "ratings" and IMDB way too seriously and you need to get a sense of humour. Unless you don't know any better.

You're right, it is – I don't want to destroy the joke by over-explaining it, but it's because a quote from this film is the source of the idea of "turning something up to 11", i.e. to go off the top of a normal scale. Amazingly, IMDb seem to have picked up and run with the joke in tribute :)

8 out of 11! I love IMDb.

reply

Perhaps it's just me, but it looks as if they've got rid of it - I only see 8/10. Shame.

reply

Nope, it's still there!

reply

It's there if you don't vote or if you log out.

reply

And they say IMDb doesn't have a sense of humor! How interesting that they rate it up to 11. Very fitting. If you are going to go up to ten, might as well go up to 11. If you don't "get it", I highly recommend you see this mockumentary. A Christpoher Guest classic!

although the ratings *supposedly* go all the way to 11, you really can only give 10 stars. believe me, i tried to give it an 11.

reply

Yep, same here. I would so give this movie 11 stars if they'd let me.
