THIS IS NO GREAT MOVIE

Maybe it's good for someone but it's arguable. They TALK whole flick like "look at us we pretending to be rock band and crew" very rarely throwing subtle jokes.
It's Sacha Baron Cohen type of acting but virtually without jokes.

reply

I like it when idiots don't love the films that I do.

It's very reassuring.

Thought I was havin' trouble with my adding. It's all right now

reply

It's about opinions and arguments child. Go do your homework.

reply

i thought it was a great movie but then when i read your THIS IS NO GREAT MOVIE post you completely changed my mind.

"we're gonna find out who did this....and we're gonna kill him"

reply

yes, arguments, something you did not provide.

Second and third sentences?

reply

i agree!

reply

I don't think I could ever be friends with or respect the opinion, of anyone who didn't like Spinal Tap.

reply

Don't worry, ssseuth is really a deep cover Mensa member trying to make idiots everywhere look worse than they already do. He isn't really as dumb as all his posts would make you think...

=/

"No Silicon Heaven? Preposterous! Where would all the calculators go?"

reply

To be honest ssseuth there wouldn't be Sacha Baron Cohen if it wasn't for ST. It is a seminal film that led the way for mocumentaries and is loved the world over...I actually feel sorry for you.

reply

But it should be other way round.

reply

(?) Sorry ssseuth - your last comment made NO SENSE WHATSOEVER. In fact, very little of what you have written is barely coherent. You criticise the movie for an overuse of dialogue, when documentaries by their very definition are often dialogue-heavy. And frankly, if you think that there is a lack of subtlety in this movie, you've clearly missed the point, eg: "People were still booing him when we were on stage". When one considers the impact/influence this style of filmmaking has had on popular culture - no Ricky Gervais and therefore no "The Office," no Sacha Baron Cohen, along with Larry David's brand of mocumentary in "Curb Your Enthusiasm", it is clear that Spinal Tap is one of the most influential comedies ever made.
But there again, you probably thought that Bruno was subtle didn't you?

reply

You seem to be confused. Please visit your local doctor and then reread what I actually wrote.

"very little of what you have written is barely coherent"

Yet you answered my critique.

reply

I'm an English teacher - successfully deciphering misjudged or incoherent arguments is part of my job, though to be fair, it was more exhaustive work than usual when scrutinising the inconsistencies in your "critique."

reply

12 years old internet troll is a teacher? You wish.

reply

Mmmm - a mature, intelligent, thought-provoking reply. This can only strengthen the critical relevance of your previous posts. (Note - I'm using IRONY here.)

reply

12 yo schoolkid trying to troll. But the IRONY is nobody cares.

reply

Well, as you've clearly bested me on an intellectual level, I'll leave, content in the knowledge that since other IMDB users have disagreed with your unusual point-of-view, clearly SOMEBODY cares!

reply

Boy, you are retarded.

reply

If you don't understand subtelty and need the Sacha Baron Cohen "shove it in your face" style, then that is your problem, not a problem with This is Spinal Tap.

As someone else pointed out, Sacha Baron Cohen would not be doing what he does as he does it without this film.

Besides, is the difference isn't that great. Movies like Borat and Bruno are just lots of talk interspersed with UNsubtle jokes.

reply

I didn't write jokes weren't subtle. Learn how to read.

reply

Because you can't write, I took your comment to mean that they rarely make jokes, and when they do, they are sbtle.

Let's make a deal, you learn to write, and I will learn to read.

I can write but you definitely should learn how to read.

reply

1. You can't argue, you showed it.
2. There's no need to argue cause everyone can read your posts, stupid.

reply

Hey Robbmonster - seriously, don't bother. I know you're right, the IMDB rating for "Spinal Tap" and the film's well-documented international acclaim proves you're right, as does the endorsement of the movie from a number of popular comedians worldwide. Clearly, ssseuth is trying very hard and using his (admittedly limited) wits to defend his nonsensical gibberish, so it’s just best to humour him. That's right ssseuth - we're all wrong and you're right. Interestingly though, didn't you claim that it was an irony that "nobody cares" when referring to a previous post I wrote?

reply

Oh, and just to save you the trouble ssseuth, I thought I’d pre-empt you by writing your response for you:
“Shut up child...” (what’s with all the children references anyway?) “...as I cannot respond on an intellectual level, I’ll just call you “retarded” or something, since that’s the limit of my mental ability.”
There you go ssseuth – no thanks necessary.

reply

You should really learn how to argue. Read article "argument" in Wikipedia for example.

reply

Wow - that's really put me in my place!

reply

No, I mean it. Don't use ad hominem arguments, etc. and you'll be fine.

reply

You started the ad hominem attacks when you said...

"Boy, you are retarded."

to k-sheldrake.

I have to add that Spinal Tap is the best comedy of it's type ever made...

reply

Sure, as an intellectual I can use argumenta ad hominem to put morons like you into your place.

reply

wow you really are an imbecile. criticizing this other guy for not being able to argue when in fact your so called arguments are so repetitious. its hilarious when ppl post on here thinking they know what the hell their talking about. here ill get to your level - YOURE ARGUMENTS SUCK D U M B A S S!

Ah yes, Wikipedia. Home of the B+ college essay.

reply

Another idiot.

reply

ssseuth is cool.

reply

I had the same opinion the first time I watched it. 25 years and about 100 viewings later, I now see how brilliant it is. Get yourself a DVD copy of it. Watch it about 100 times. Then post again. You sound like you watched it once and you're probably way too young to get half the jokes. Keep watching and get educated.

reply

Very good point, his posts are rather intellectually limited, and at first I just assumed he wasn't that bright, but you're probably right about his age. When he's older he'll understand it better. I just saw it last night and thought it was absolutely hilarious but had to explain some of the jokes to my sister.

I agree, this movie is too slow-moving and very cliche.
