What is your favourite Spinal Tap song?

Whether you have the soundtrack or not, tell us your favorite Tap number. I like "Rock & Roll Creation". "America" and "Cups and Cakes" are a close second. And by the way, their music is just as good or better than just about any real band out there. Your thoughts?

Hi there vcI3-1

I had the soundtrack along time ago. Misplaced it. I am watching it right now. Thought I would see who is commenting on this Board recently. Good thread and good question. My favorite song is "Big Bottom" hands down. Here is "Big Bottom" featuring David Gilmour of Pink Floyd. I read that they did this for Amnesty International charity concert in 1991. Love it.

"The bigger the cushion the sweeter pushin"

"My baby fits me like a flesh tuxedo... I'd like to sink her with my pink torpedo"

"Big bottom drive me out of my mind...how could I leave this behind?

Hands down the best Spinal Tap song...But one of my most favorite scenes is when Nigel is working on "Lick My Love Pump." Comedic genius that scene. Well, actually all scenes. I love this movie. One of my most favorite movies ever. And "Fanboys" making fun of Star Wars fans is also way at the top as well. If you haven't seen Fanboys, I recommend it. People that take themselves too seriously are just sad. That's why I love these parodies.

I agree. I love their music. I wish they toured. That would be a fun concert. Kind of like the fun of Jimmy Buffet concert. You know when the WHOLE audience makes shark hands and does a group sing a long to rival any Barney the Dinosaur diddy... "Fins to the left...fins to the right....". But instead the whole audience holding lighters singing "my baby fits me like a flesh tuxedo...".

They did tour after they released the Break Like the Wind album. One of the best concerts I've ever seen.

As far as my favorite song, I can't pick just one. I really like Heavy Duty from the soundtrack. From BLTW I'd probably go with The Majesty of Rock or The Sun Never Sweats but they're all good.

Oh Wowza!!! . That must have been soooooo much fun! Did they have the Stonehenge skit? I wish they would do a remake. They'd have so much good material. Thanks for the info. 

I saw that tour too. Great, great show. I still have my Bitch School t-shirt.

I also saw them a few years ago, I think 2008 or 2009, when they did an acoustic tour, billed as Unplugged And Unwigged. They did it out of character, so it was Michael McKean, Christopher Guest and Harry Shearer playing Tap songs, as well as a few songs from A Mighty Wind (McKean's wife, Annette O'Toole came onstage and sang one of the A Mighty Wind songs). They also told stories between the songs, like Shearer listing all the edits NBC demanded before they would the air on late night TV back in 1984, they showed a video of the very first Spinal Tap appearance ever (from a TV special Rob Reiner did circa 79 or 80), etc. They also did a Q&A segment. Someone asked about Big Bottom, and they explained it was inspired by the Queen song Fat Bottomed Girls (though they never explained why the all play bass on that song). That show I got a Shark Sandwich hoodie, and every time I wear it out, someone always recognizes it and makes a comment. Last April, I was in Chicago and was walking across a bridge, with it on, this guy comes up behind me carrying an acoustic guitar, and says "This one goes up to 11", and then carries on past me.

A Shark Sandwich hoodie! Pretty sweet. I've still got my Break Like the Wind t-shirt, but it can't be worn. Still got the old tagger on it.

Stone Henge. That song rocks!

Hmmm, that's a difficult one. I'll go with 'Tonight I'm gonna rock you (tonight!)'. I just love the way St Hubbins screams the word 'me' at the end.
I also like 'Bitch School' a lot at the moment, but haven't heard the rest of the 'break like the wind' album, something I really need to sort out!

I highly recommend the Break Like the Wind. It runs circles around the soundtrack. Having trouble picking a favorite song but it would definitely be on that album.

Knew some guys in a cover band and they covered "Tonight I'm Rock Ya".

"Tonight I'm gonna rock you, Tonight" - in the mid '80s I was in a 6-piece band and I usually checked my rhythm sound with the intro riff. Much to our engineer's chagrin, the rest of the band started falling in 🎸

For sheer stupidity and brilliance: Sex Farm

Working on a sex farm
Trying to raise some hard love
Getting out my pitch fork
Poking your hay

Scratching in your hen house
Sniffing at your feedbag
Slipping out your back door
Leaving my spray

Sex farm woman, I'm gonna mow you down
Sex farm woman, I'll rake and hoe you down
Sex farm woman, don't you see my silo rising high?

Working on a sex farm
Hosing down your barn door
Bothering your livestock
They know what I need

Working up a hot sweat
Crouching in your pea patch
Plowing through your bean field
Planting my seed

Sex farm woman, I'll be your hired hand
Sex farm woman, I'll let my offer stand
Sex farm woman, don't you hear my tractor rumbling by?

Working on a sex farm
Trying to raise some hard love
Getting out my pitch fork
Poking your hay
