Stonehenge scene

In the Stonehenge scene, Spinal Tap is completely shocked that their stage prop is tiny (in danger of being crushed by a dwarf!).

I know the movie is just a parody. But what's the chance that the band would be totally unaware that the Stonehenge rock was undersize until they were performing onstage? Usually a band would know what the stage set up would be like days or weeks before the show. Even if they were forced to use the mini Stonehenge, they would be aware of it!

Yeah see, it's a movie so it's not real.

This was inspired by a true story, when Black Sabbath toured America they wanted a replica Stonehenge, their bassist drew up plans and there was a misinterpretation between feet and metres.

The replica was massive as in life size and barely fit on some of the stages they were playing on. They also had a dwarf who would run about the replica, he was an Ewok apparently and the crew didn't like him as he would boast about his success. They had to sack him as they became sadistic towards him.

Anyway, I have read a number of rock autobiographies and especially the ones from the 70's and 80's they are so zonked out on any number of drugs that they rarely had much idea what was going on and a lot of things were out of their hands. They just figure someone will take care of it and leave it at that just like Spinal Tap which is way more realistic than you might think!

Sometimes a movie or tv show plot is so stupid that only the stupid can understand it.

They thought the manager would carefully take care of things while they would concentrate on playing music and lounging around. It's certainly bizarre that the manager never looked at the drawing properly and advise the set designers of the needed scale and/or the designers clarifying for themselves the desired scale of the prop, seeing that the plan was not realistic in scale.

According to some posts that I've read apparently this is a parody of a real incident where the designers got a henge prop wrong.
