Why isn't the score better?

I missed it when it was in theaters but fell in I LOVE with this movie when it was released to cable back in 1985. Watched as many times as I could. Even bought the soundtrack on vinyl.
I'm so surprised that the score isn't higher.
I wonder what folks don't like about it.
