I'll agree the TV series had a lot of potential. It was good. Terminator 2 might be the best movie ever made (you heard me right, best movie ever made) and Terminator 1 comes next in line of Terminator movies. That idiot that played John Connor in Terminator 3 was so annoying and miscast. Besides that, it was a solid movie I would place after Terminator 1. I still can't believe James Cameron let them destroy the John Connor storyline in Dark Fate. THE entire series is based on that storyline. Come on James Cameron!

T2 had way too much cheesy Hollywood schlock to even qualify as the best of the Terminator series (which will always be the original). After The Terminator, Cameron's writing and characterization became increasingly reliant on silly archetypes and indicative of standard Hollywood audience pandering (probably self-imposed by Cameron to better ingratiate himself with the moneyed schlockmeisters). Even Aliens, a mostly great film, suffered a little bit from this. It got really bad in The Abyss and continued to a lesser extent in T2. The idea of a fatherless boy bonding with a cyborg was interesting, but in Cameron's hands was done in a ham-fisted manner IMO. The whiney little Edward Furlong California boy thing didn't help.

Just like they came out, actually. I'd put Genisys and Dark Fate as a nice tie for last. Both are atrocious movies.

If they do any more Terminator movies they should keep it in the future and ignore Salvation - begin with John right after the war starting to build the resistance and the rise of the machines.

1. The Terminator. End.

T2 is a fun, non-canon bonus title that craps all over the in-universe rules established by T1. Everything else is truly egregious.

reply

1. The Terminator (Classic)
2. Terminator 2: Judgement Day (One of the greatest sequels ever)

3. Terminator 3: Rise Of The Machines (Eh a huge step down but entertaining at least)

4. Terminator Genysis (I have no idea WTF this was supposed to be?)
5. Terminator Salvation (A boring, dreary mess. Also Bale was totally miscast)

6. Terminator: Dark Fate (3-5 may have been a letdown but at least they respected the first two, this one takes a huge giant dump on the franchise and everything the characters had accomplished in the previous films)

T1 (the original undiluted version of Terminator .. pure horror Sci Fi noir)
T2 (the mega bucks summer blockbuster version of Terminator .. but obviously still a fuckin masterpiece)

Ok now it gets hard

TDF (I guess because only seen it once so still feels 'fresh' and it was like the proper sequel to T2 and had Linda back and is proper R rated. Was still way disappointing though, a serious fuck up really)

TG (at the time as it was kind of fun to see bits of T1 on the big screen and the expanded 2029 future war stuff at last and overall was like a Marvel version of the entire franchise in one PG13 film. But jesus Jai Courtney was terrible casting and overall the film was obviously lame esp all the 2017 stuff)

TS (an absolute shit move to promise the blue night future war with Bale only to deliver it as washed out Mad Maxlite PG13 Transforminators - only redeemed slightly as ok it was sort of the future war and it had Bale and Ironside but man what a waste of a $200m future war movie)

T3 (at the time it didn't feel that bad in summer 03 probably as Matrix 2 was so disappointing as it was expected to be as awesome as the 1st Matrix and T3 didn't feel as disappointing as no one expected much since there was no Cameron .. but now.. man its just so dull and feels like a stdvd version of T2)
