He shouldn't have been able to hit the terminator at all - a sophisticated robot should've been so fast in its reflexes (no delay) that Matt should've looked like he's moving in extremely slow motion from terminator's viewpoint.
A robot like that should be able to predict and calculate constantly where Matt's hand will go, where his leg will land, where his point of gravity is, and adjust itself accordingly to compensate, so WHATEVER Matt does, the terminator knows all about its every single possible movement arc before Matt even knows what his own body is doing.
That robot should've been able to not only block every single attempt at whatever Matt tries, but also avoid being rammed by him and countered every move effortlessly - Matt shouldn't have had any time to do anything, the terminator moved ridiculously slowly considering what a robot like that should've been able to do - for it to be effective terminator at all.
It should've gone like this:
"Projecting melee weapon arc from the initiated movement - calculating optimal point of block impact for maximum damage to assailant's hand while plotting an effective punch to assailant's eye"
"Available acupoints displayed in flashing green, punching the one that shuts down breathing reflex and then the one that causes loss of consciousness, and then crushing the neck with knee and twist"
"Assailant rendered inoperable, seeking next target"
Instead of this tossing back and forth. Why would terminator ever TOSS? It's silly and ineffective.
