Fun Terminator Fact - Did you know

that both Sylvester Stallone and Mel Gibson were offered the title role but turned it down? According to Schwarzenegger, OJ Simpson was also seriously considered for the Terminator and Arnie was cast as Kyle Reece, until James Cameron had a change of heart and cast Arnie as the Terminator and dropped Simpson altogether.

Could you imagine?! I suppose you could say OJ did end up playing a terminator of sorts, although it wasn't exactly a smart career move.

reply

lol damn.

but also i love Arnie as the baddie in this.

reply

You missed one. Lance Henricksen accepted the role, then Arnold came onboard. Since he had already signed on, they gave him the police detective role. That made him one of the highest paid cameos in Hollywood.

reply

That I didn’t know.

reply

I had learned about that years ago.
Interesting enough, I just looked now on IMDB page. According to that Trivia, Lance was never offered the role. Now I'm scratching my head wondering.

reply

From the trivia under Lance Henriksen on IMDb he was clearly intended to be The Terminator at one stage and it's quite possible he was actually signed up for the role before it moved to Arnie.

reply

I wouldn't say it was a cameo. Sure, he isn't in a lead role. He's a side character, but he does play a significant part. I think "cameo" may be a bit overstated.

reply

You're right. Miswording on my part.

reply

Still, the point stands and it is an interesting tidbit.

reply

You spelled Reese with a c. Sorry, but that makes you untrustworthy about Terminator facts

reply

Don’t be sorry. I’m not pretending to be any sort of Terminator authority, it was just an interesting titbit I heard and this seemed the place to share it.

Thank you for your correction. I’ll be sure to Google the name of every secondary film character I mention in the future so we don’t end up in this dilemma again.

reply

LOL

I've often thought about who would also make a good Terminator had Arnold not played the role. But until now, I have never considered the possibility of Arnold playing Reese. Now that I have, I can't stop thinking this one through. It's a real brain twister imagining this.

The size. The accent. The chemistry with Linda Hamilton. How would that all play out? Would it work? Hmmm.

reply

Yeah. Arnold as Kyle Reese would have been less dramatic.

reply

Arnie as Kyle Reese would have made the Terminator more like the Running Man a great Arnie action flick but just that ,not the true classic that it became.Michael Biehn carries the movie both on action and exposition, so underrated...

reply

Agreed. It's unlikely Reese would have died if Arnold played him.

reply

An interesting, but disturbing image.. O.J. confessing his love for Sarah, while they're both hiding from Mel Gibson.

reply

OJ was never considered as Reese. It was 1984 interracial couples wasn't a thing then...They would have to recast Sarah too.On the other hand 28 year old Mel Gibson as Kyle Reese would have been great.OJ as the Terminator would have work perfectly too especially after 1994...

reply

OJ went on to be a real life terminators of his whore wife

reply

"whore wife" ?

reply

she didn't deserve what she got but she was playing with fire living the lifestyle she was living. burn the coal u pay the toll

reply

If OJ got the role, there would be no sequels or spin-offs after T2

reply

WITH OJ IN THE LEAD...THE FILM PROBABLY FINDS ITSELF RELIGATED TO THE 80S SCI FI DUST BIN...MAYBE A FEW DIRECT TO VIDEO SHIT SEQUELS.
