Sarah and her annoying antics

I've heard it said that some people don't like Sarah in the first Terminator movie. They find her annoying and incompetent. Well I believe that's what they were aiming for. Sarah was just this girl who worked at a diner and there wasn't anything special about her until its revealed that she is destined to be the mother of John Connor, the great leader who turns the tide and ultimately wins the war against the machines in the future. Before she learns of all this she is just this naive small time waitress and then all of a sudden she has all this responsibility thrust on her. She is much like Luke Skywalker in ANH and I think that's how they were trying to make her.

She's far more annoying in the second movie.

While I understand the filmmakers giving her more character strength in the sequel I do prefer the earlier version of Sarah Connor, enjoying her slow development into becoming the soldier she has to be in order to survive.

Exactly : it's a character-arc. That's how movies were, back then when people gave a sh!t about story and characters.

Unfortunately we have come to a point where we have to explain the obvious to kids who are growing up with Superhero movies and Mary Sue movies.

Yeah yeah I'm old and grumpy, whatever : movies were better back then, now everything sucks.

I am surprised to hear this. Most people and fans I talk to always say how much they love her. I like Sarah in the first movie. I think she took everything pretty well considering all she learned. She is ten thousand times better then Emilia Clarke.

First movie is by far my favorite Sarah. Yeah, she was all badass in the second movie, but I love that she is just a normal girl having to come to grips with being the most important person to the world's future. Watching her bumble around her everyday life is adorable, and you kinda feel her fear as she is dragged into the rest of the adventure. By the final scene, you see how she has grown as a character, in the conclusion to what I feel is a brilliant character arc.
