Movies about wife/girlfriend adultery/divorce in WWII

Just watched this one again after several years of my first viewing.

Pretty good movie on a difficult moral subject. Unfortunately adultery and divorce was much more common in WWII than the total universe of movies about WWII and immediate aftermath would indicate (from only the woman's cheating viewpoint.)

"Best Years of Our Lives" is one pretty good one - with perhaps close to the reality of as many as 20-30% of marriages did not survive WWII in the USA (and not counting the obvious KIA situations.)

"The Blue Dahlia" is one.

"The Detective" (Frank Sinatra) dodged the issue - Joe Leland's wife started cheating on him in WWII when he was in England as a fighter pilot in the much better book.

"From Here to Eternity"

"IN Harm's Way"

Any others? Especially released pre 1960?

Is an interesting article on the real world situation.

Une femme française (1995) It's French. If, like me, you think Emmanuelle Beart is one of the most beautiful creatures on earth, you'll find it worthwhile. It's particularly interesting that the movie is based on the life of the director's own mother.

I'm trying to think of some that more closely match your World War 2/pre-1960 request. If I come up with any, I'll post them.

Been looking for that one.

Haven't been able to see it yet after checking all the usual places. ;-)

"Yanks" is in my Netflix DVD queue.

I have seen "End of the Affair".

Will try and find "Desire Me" and I believe that other French movie you referenced is on Youtube.

Thanks for your replies.

Une affaire de femmes (1988) Another good one from France set during World War II, but, again, not pre-1960. This one features the wonderful Isabelle Huppert.

Desire Me (1947) Starring Greer Garson at the peak of her beauty. It has a bit of a twist on the adultery subject, but it is an excellent movie. As you will have guessed, I also find movies with this subject matter interesting. In fact, I watched this one and Blue Dahlia on the same day a couple years ago.
