Summer 1983 - my on set memories during Supergirl filming.

I posted this before on this IMDB Supergirl comments section a few years ago, but alas it's gone, deleted in the mist of time!

This time I'm making a copy ;)

In 1983, aged 21, I had a summer job at Pinewood Studios, in the catering department!

My main duty was to drive a van full of tea and coffee urns, and loads of cakes and sandwiches, to the three main film sets, one of which was Supergirl.

It was one of the happiest summers of my life, so far!

I got to see several key scenes from Supergirl being filmed, on a massive set (and some interior scenes too), with car crashes, explosions, stunt work, but for me, most memorable of all, seeing Helen Slater, Marc McClure, Faye Dunaway, Brenda Vaccaro, Hart Bochner doing what they had to do, with 100% enthusiasm and professional attitude.

Being British and a fan of Tottenham Hotspur, meeting Peter Cook and talking about "our Spurs" was a personal treasure.

So many great memories of that time, assistant director Derek Cracknell

in complete control during some specific and very loud action scenes, and in contrast to all that shouting, Helen Slater and Marc McClure so sweet to everybody they chatted with, whether little ole me or a co-star.

Happy Days! :)

..and our memories about Faye Dunaway ?

Thanks for sharing! Warms my heart to know that everybody had a great time. It shows in the film. I know the film isn't perfect but it's still great for what it is, and I know Jeannot Szwarc is still quite happy with it. Helen seems to stand by it as well. Not Hart unfortunately but eh, he hasn't stood by anything in years.

I'm with Alexis - any Dunaway stories?

P.S. I remember you DID post about Brenda and Faye bantering and how much fun they had on the set some years ago.

Ewing is my name, Oil is my Game!

Great post! Thanks for sharing your memories. I arrived at Pinewood a few years after Supergirl - I was there from January 1987 to end 1990 working for American movie producer, Elliott Kastner. I remember that some of the Supergirl town set was still there but then I think they got rid of it to build the Batman Gotham City set. I got to visit that set a couple times and I also got to see the very beautiful and friendly (and at the time relatively unknown) Kim Basinger. I met quite a few actors during my time there. Tim Dalton - a great guy, so polite; Al Pacino - cool dude; Marlon Brando - also a cool dude, despite all the stories - well, he was nice to me at any rate. Clint Eastwood (when he was making White Hunter, Black Heart), Cary Elwes (Elliott's stepson) - nice guy. I talked to Gregory Peck on the phone too!
