The Criterion Collection

In my opinion, the only company that could do justice to this movie in a potential DVD release is the Criterion Collection. I e-mailed the contact on their site for suggestions a couple of months ago requesting that they release this movie. So if you want to see this movie released the way it needs to be (with essays on where the kids are now, commentary, special features, etc.) then e-mail them! Here's the contact they have for movie suggestions: [email protected]

Completely agree that this film deserves a proper DVD release. Criterion isn't the only company that could do this film justice, but I agree they're a top candidate for re-releasing cinematic gems like Streetwise. It's certainly one of my all time favorite films.

If you're reading this post and agree, take a minute to email Criterion and tell them what you think!

Criterion isn't the only company, but they have done some remarkable work with documentaries, and would certainly do 'Streetwise' the justice it deserves.

Yeah.

I totally believe that The Criterion Collection should re-release this on DVD.

After sending an email to Criterion, the response I got from them was that there aren't any current plans to re-release "Streetwise" through them...

But not to be discouraged, there are other companies out there who could take on this film. One prime candidate is New Yorker Films who have released many little-known but note worthy films including "The Times of Harvey Milk" which won best documentary in 1984 and beat out Streetwise for the Oscar. Although despite its win, I think "Streetwise" is a better film and apparently so did Roger Ebert when he reviewed them, giving 4 stars to Streetwise and 3 1/2 to "The Times of Harvey Milk".

I'm going to continue to carry the torch for this great film and have emailed New Yorker Films to let them know. If you'd like to do the same, they can be reached at: [email protected]

we need this on DVD from Criterion!

This film definately needs to be released.... through any company. This is a great documentary and its a shame a lot of people havent seen it or heard of it. It would be nice if Criterion released this, but i strongly doubt they will.
There are used VHS copies on amazon and i believe the whole film is on youtube in 10 minute segments.

The fact that "Streetwise" is still not available is unbelievable, and a shame. I guess distributors don't think there is enough interest in this old, obscure film. That is too bad, especially considering all the new trash that is cluttering the shelves these days.
