Stanley Kubrick

While it never comes out and says it, 'Strangers Kiss' is a pretty blatant reference to Stanley Kubrick's making of 'Killer's Kiss.' Nothing really outstanding here, but it's a good low-budget film that deserves to be better known. A little rough in some spots (a dash of poor acting here, some amateur direction there), but there are genuinely affecting moments, and Peter Coyote as Stanley is very good. It's not available on DVD, but I highly recommend seeking it out on VHS.

I'm a pretty huge Kubrick fan. I think I might want to see this, just out of curiosity. Would you advise that?

It's worthwhile. I don't think it's a particularly strong film (the budget constraints are fairly evident), but it's well acted and it's pretty obvious that the people involved cared about it. I'd say **1/2 out of ****.
