Just saw this on Netflix last night. Is it real or a "movie" movie? 99% looked real, but a couple parts seemed like a "movie" movie. Anyhow,I liked it.

Its a real film in the sense that the late John Spaceley was a heroin addict and died of AIDs in the early nineties. Some of the scenes are definitely "a second take" but pretty much everything is real, the director Lech Kowalski (one of the most under-rated documentary film makers around) simply followed him around, it wasn't scripted.

If you want to see a really sad and poignant end to John Spaceley's life, watch "Born to Lose: The Last Rock and Roll Movie", another documentary, on another dead junkie, Johnny Thunders where Spaceley is featured dieing of AIDs related conditions and you see his body in the morgue.

I actually first read about John Spacely in the book "The Ibogaine Story" where one of the researchers/activists tried to get John to take Ibogaine (an opiate interrupter) but it never panned out.

A truly great film that really captures the circular monotony of being addicted to heroin.
