Excellent list! I've seen most of those films, and I intend to see the ones that I haven't yet because I like your tastes.

Here are a few that I would add that fit the spirit, tone and look of "The Stone Boy":
Rachel Rachel (1968)
The Last Picture Show (1971)
Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore (1974)
Carny (1980)
Resurrection (1980)
The Trip to Bountiful (1985) (this I'd especially recommend if you haven't seen it)
84 Charing Cross Road (1987)
The Adjuster (1991)
Calendar (1993)
Lonesome Jim (2005)
Old Joy (2006)
Into the Wild (2007)

Thanks for the recommendations, I really appreciate it. I've seen most of those. "Old Joy" was really good.

You're very welcome. "Old Joy" is very good, the logical bookend to "Wendy and Lucy." I love films like those that evoke a mood. They stick with me long after I've seen them.
