Did they limit Uhura's scenes because of Nichelle Nichols weight?

If they did, I'm not saying I would agree with that decision personally.

But like several other posters, I noticed that Uhura didn't get much screen time in this one. And when she was onscreen, she was usually sitting behind a very large control panel.

Then came The Voyage Home - where the producers made the decision to stop trying to hide the actors' advancing ages - and we all immediately noticed that Scotty and Uhura had put on more than just a bit of weight.

Were they trying to hide the fact that Nichelle didn't quite have the same voluptuous figure she sported so well during her mini-skirt days in TOS?

Are you serious?

She was quite slim in star trek III. She had a great figure.

The scene with mr adventure you see she is wearing skirt and boots and looks very sexy.

I agree, and wish they would have shown more of her. I don't expect or need her to have the same figure she did in the 60's. Or expect any woman to look the same 20+ years later.

Unitary actually has a more active involvement in the novelization and too bad those scenes with her monitoring star fleet communication and her escape to Vulcan wasn't included since it would have been nice to give her something more to do.

I don't know about that. Otherwise they never would have done the singing scene in Star Trek V where she served as a distraction.

She frankly had a bigger part in this than the previous two films, in which she might've had more screen time but was pretty much a glorified extra.
