She wakes up early and gets into the bath. It looks like she does something to her arm to make herself get a fin. Does anyone know what I'm taking about? She brushes her hair and pours salt in the tub with water. Then for a moment, she sits there and it looks like she pinches her arm and it makes her get a fin, even though she's not in the water yet.
Can someone explain this to me? What does she do??! Thanks.
She doesn't do anything to her arm, she was just positioning it. And she was already in the water. She had already turned the faucet on before she got in. The water was probably around calves-deep when she got in the tub, that's why her legs turned into a tail.
Also, that small scene had very little movement, so I would guess the director instructed her to reposition her arm to add more movement to the scene.
She puts salt in the tub water.

shareI did notice the pinching of the arm as well, yes. But I assumed she was already, at least feet deep, in the water because she was sitting on the edge of bath tub. To me, it seemed like she was pinching herself, bracing herself for the coming transformation of her legs to tail.

While I agree (for film purposes) that she is hiding her privates, she also does appear to be *pinching* herself for some reason.
To me, I always felt it was a necessary physical & magical *requirement* when switching from legs to fins.
Kind of like waving a magic wand or twitching one's nose ala Bewitched.

I don´t know if she pinches her arm or not, but she clearly hides the area where the fin ends and her waist starts, because you would see the mechanic behind her fake legs.
I don´t know what she is hiding, but it´s pretty obvious that she holds her arm in that way to cover that part.
