A bit disturbing?

So when Tom Hanks meets the girl in the police office and takes her home, she doesn't really appear like she is mentally all there. That's the first conclusion any normal person would make when they meet a girl like that, if they didn't know she was a mermaid. Arrested for walking nude, doesn't quite know most of the common things-revolving doors, television etc, clearly giving the impression of being incredibly childish for someone of that age. So it's a bit disturbing that Tom Hanks' character proceeds to have intimate physical relationship right away with such a person. I know it's a movie and I should probably just enjoy. I hate when people do this in message boards. But I wonder if they'll make her character act the way she did if this movie was made today.

It's disturbing to think you can't acknowledge that they did these things because the film is a COMEDY. It doesn't matter, there are no Mermaids either. Jeez! 

It's disappointing that we overthink these great comedies from a modern moral standpoint and kill all possible enjoyment we might get out of them.

Get off your soapbox while I play you a tune on the tiniest violin.

This is a charming, magical, sweet, funny and even somewhat naive comedy from the early 80's. I played it for my roommate who is in his late 20's yesterday and he got bored about 80mins in and went to bed. He just couldn't connect with the warmth or gentle love\romance of the film and I find that sad. How does he even relate to his very feminine girlfriend, that is what bamboozles me. 

They already knew each other though, it was like "I know you don't I?"
