They have one person of color in the film. A lovely woman with blue eyes. At one point she refers to the captain of the vessel as "master". another scene in the film has a gorilla on the ship with a noose around its neck. Were the writers trying to say something without saying it?
It's just a stuffed animal toy. The girl & the guy you're referring to were messing around & had a love/hate relationship in the movie and it looked like she liked being sarcastic to him and to antagonize him.

Yes. The filmmakers were trying to help all of us identify the morons living among us. Those are the people who point out or complain about a movie that has no black/asian/latino/dutch/conehead characters.
Some of the best movies ever made have no black actors. Some of the best music had no white musicians in the studio. And some of the best food has neither race in the kitchen.
Life is not politically correct; why should art be? Simply because it would make some people more comfortable? Art should never be shackled by the chains of comfort or conformity. Art is the language of rebellion. If that makes you uncomfortable, it should.
