Really all that tough?

Brenda (and the other girls for that matter) really didn't seem to be all that bad-assed. They all basically talked big but that was it.

When Brenda had the shower room fight, all she did was stay on the opposite side of the shower for most of the "fight" and didn't really do much else. Same thing for the classroom fight, although she ripped the other girl's shirt off.

When her friend (Francine) came out of the bathroom and was grabbed by the Scars, she couldn't get away for the longest time. Pardon me, but she got all whiny and whimpery.

And at the end, Brenda almost gets knocked out when Jake swings the gate at her. Maybe it's just the era of the movie, but for a gang-like group of girls, they sure couldn't do much to protect themselves.

morgan, take a deep breath. Ready for a reality check? Here it is. it's only a movie.

but on the note of toughness if what happened to you was the same as what happened to brenda and her friends you might find a whole new level of toughness within you.

reply

Oh my god, really vindicator?!?!? Only a movie?!?!?! The scales have fallen from my eyes, hallelujah!!!

Yeah, I know that Sherlock, but within the reality of that particular movie, they are supposed to be this gang-like group of girls who are tough as nails, but when push comes to shove, they aren't that tough, that is my point.

The Dagger Debs from Switchblade Sisters would have kicked their butts, but Savage Streets was a pretty great movie too.

reply

Yeah, I'm not saying Savage Streets was bad, just that the girls weren't as tough as they made themselves sound.

Thanks for the movie tip - I'll give Switchblade Sisters a look and see how it stacks up!

Totally agree with you morgan. The entire time I was waiting for them to be tougher and more ferocious and was mystified when they consistently wimped out.

"Red car ... good point!"

reply

Exactly. They talked a lot of smack, but weren't very good with the follow-through. I watched Dagger Debs like the other poster mentioned, and it was good - if you allow for the time frame in which it was filmed. At least these chicks were tougher!!!

At no point did they ever claim to be tough, or a gang, they're a group of friends, and she was pretty tough for a highschool girl to shoot two grown men to death, and burn another to death.

Well the whole point is that the movie was trying to show that it was kind of real in that way..the movie was showing these street smart high school girls who were just having fun and 'acting' tough, just like a lot of people do today..they like to act tough. But when they're confronted with the Scars (the real deal) they have to show and prove and see if they're really as tuff as they think(I think Brenda showed she had it in her)..It wasn't a phony kind of tough either, where the chicks were these one-dimensional phony killng machines and nothing could stop them..The Satins were three-dimensional!!!..now go *beep* an iceberg!!

I agree. It explains why Brenda sorta acts out of character at the very end. She was suppose to be "tough" yet she screamed and run like damsel when the Scar came after her at the very end.

She off those guys due to planning and tactics, not because of "fair fight". I am actually glad they made it like this. It's more "realistic". If this movie was made today, Brenda would probably have "girl power" moments and fight like professional special agent for some reason, even tho she's suppose to be just street-smart.

Anyway, I liked Linnea in this movie. I always remember her as either a bitchy\flirty\sexy character, and she was much different in this movie. She was kinda sweet. I mean, the next two movies are "Silent Night Deadly Night" and "Return of the Living Dead" which have 180 turn in character.

Ps. and yeah, Switchblade Sisters would fu*k up Satins anytime. xD

I agree as well. The worst part for me was at the end against Jake. First she appears all super tough but after he slams the door on her, she goes into "daddy-im-scared" mode and basically runs for her life instead of fighting back, even though he was significantly wounded.

I know, LOL, the end was kinda stupid where she went from tough-ass to wimpy in a split second. But also you have to think they were supposed to be teenagers and I don't think any of those girls were in their teens but up in their 20s. The others probably could have gotten away with that, but not Linda Blair because she was so well-known and known to be much older than 16 or 17 years old.
