Allright!!

I love this animation, even though the story is basic and familiar, I love the design of the characters (Wurzel!!!!!!! Damn, best portrayal of an alien life form biped and has 'membranous' wings so can fly!! Wurzel is MY favorite character, lensman, just all around favorite alien concept!!! I love this concept over H.R. Giger's 'alien' and certainly above Stan Winston's 'predator' and it was this Wurzel that I had in mind when George Lucas announced that he would begin the first sage of Star Wars and introduce the all digital character of Jar Jar Binks. This was in 1996, I think, but I know definitely he was on the Oprah Winfrey show when he announced his starting of the first of the prequels) Now Jar Jar Binks was/is a name that took a long, time to get used to hearing and before this character was revealed, I imagined what the form of this character might be like. I kept referencing the lensman Wurzel.

Well, the rest is history. Wurzel is Wurzel: a non-human(Hooray!!)life form that is part of the defenders of peace and justice, the lensman. And Jar Jar Binks is---Um, I have this on video. I saw this in 1996. Like I said, the story is basic and familiar(which I still wish wasn't so) but the animation, for me, is really very good and still holds up. I will give away no spoilers. But, for me, I have always loved how the japanese love their craft that animation (especially hand drawn animation , ALWAYS, ALWAYS, MY FIRST LOVE, MY FIRST AND TRUE LOVE) is very beloved and not regarded the way it is here in America. America is not at the forefront of animation. But the current practitioners here in America regard animation with contempt, because they stupidly have this regard. I don't want to get sidetracked. Lensman is a great SF adaptation of an author, I myself recently learned about if I may call 15 years being recent. I credit G. Lucas for mentioning 'Doc' Smith. Every animation story that was science fiction made here in America turned out to be bland and uninteresting: Treasure Planet(its obvious the animators have talent and skill, but when your working for a corporation,i.e., Disney, well your going to turn out a certain kind of work, over and over and over and over again and again, ad infinitum and then there was Don Bluth's (was it him?) A.E? Man, where did the energy and enthusiasm come from to work on this????????????????????????????????? Where did it come from????????????? Much respect and love for Brad Bird's adaptation of 'The Iron Giant' this was the film that had me saying, YES!! YES!! Dammit, finally animation is going in the right direction!!!! But, it seems to have virtually been ignored by the general population. Once again, the lensman is wonderful, wonderful, work!!!! Buskirk: is my issue, but other than that I love the lensman animation movie!!!!!!
