Ronja was so mean to Birk

I know that later they became great friends, but initially Ronja treated Birk really badly. Seriously, she was so unfair to him at times. When she saved him from falling off that cliff and he teased her a bit right after climbing up to the top, she said he deserved to fall off that cliff. That's a horrible thing to say! She even got to bite him once when he was being nice to her!

Anyone else felt sorry for Birk in these occasions?

I think we have to remember, that before Ronja met Birk, she had never met someone, who was even close to her age. It was something totally new to her. And she had also been rasied into hating the Borka robbers. So while I agree that she wasn't nice to Birk at first, I guess she simply didn't know any better. And to be fair, when she bit him in the cheek, she was under a spell and had no idea what she did.

Speaking of the part when she bit him on the cheek, that part was odd because I thought she was indeed acting as if she was under a spell but then I'd always thougt «Nah, it couldn't be.». Thank you for confirming this. But it confuses me how come she was under a spell because she wasn't a witch, neither her parents. Did the land where they live had some kind of spell that could "spread" into its population?

Ronja was under the spell of some creatures, which are called "de underjordiska" (meaning something like "those under the ground"). Swedish folklore contained many stories, where different creatures could cast such spells on people.

Humm... that's interesting. I don't know that much of swedish culture, but I know they have their own stories and myths.

Didn't you notice the voices in the fog? Those where de underjordiska that put a spell on Ronja. Birk even warned her not to follow them.

You're right, but when I created this topic I had just watched the movie for the first time, so I wasn't sure that she was under a spell, although I thought she was acting like she was under one.
