Did anybody get reminded of Splatterhouse when watching this? *Spoilers*

After playing through Splatterhouse 1-3 and the remake, and then viewing this movie for the first time, the monsters of The Deadly Spawn reminded me very much of the Boreworms in the Splatterhouse games (1-3 in particular). Not only did the boreworms in the first Splatterhouse were red, toothy, and found in rooms full of gore (evoking the imagery of the "normal" Deadly Spawn rather than the main one), the spawn of the Giant Boreworm in Splatterhouse 3, looking a lot like the very young Deadly Spawn (i.e. the ones the young boy sees swimming in the basement, with one of them being caught in a mousetrap). I wonder if this film was one of the inspirations for Splatterhouse (in particular the Boreworm enemies). It'd be fitting, don't you think?
