Respectfully, this was horrible

Happened to just see it and I think this was one of the weirdest films ever made and not in a good way.
The story didn't offer any explanations what was happening, the dialogue was awful, the directing awful, the soundtrack awful and the ending just too stupid to belive.
How is this a 98% in Rotten Tomatoes?
And I'm not trolling nor pick a fight with it's fans, but if someone could just explain what the hell was this movie about?

Y'see, madness, as you know, is like gravity. All it takes is a little...push[laughs] ~ The Joker

Respectfully, this is a fantastic f'n film.

Hey there, Johnny Boy, I hope you fry!

I agree. I enjoy a wide variety of films and was really looking forward to this, considering its reputation. I was with it until about halfway when it just imploded, going from one scene to another with little tying it together. I liked the grungy atmosphere and Stanton being Stanton, but I got little else out of it. It might reveal more upon a second viewing.

you should try watching it drunk like I did in the movie theater when it first came out. But ya gotta like some of the dialogue and visuals...Miller talking to Otto next to the burning oil barrel: "I do my best thinking on the bus....the more you drive the less intelligent you are"...HILARIOUS! And all the generic groceries which were the rage at the time. And the guy who opened the trunk and all that was left were boots. It's definitely a movie for the 16 to 25 year old male crowd though...but I have to agree with you 98% is a little too high for this movie...I would put this movie in the same league with "They Live", the Roddy Piper movie of the same era...same grittiness in the production quality...same level of star quality and character actors...same nutty alien-veined type movie with some funny dialogue ("I came to chew bubble gum and kick ass and I'm all outta bubble gum"). If you like movies, watch these two at least once...but just don't take them too seriously...

Decided to check it out, just because I saw the Criterion cover in my Amazon recommendations, looked interesting. Weird little movie with zero likable characters and a plot that's all over the place. I can't make heads or tails of it, so 6/10 for now.

I take it you were not around in '84 when this came out. Loved the punk soundtrack. Love the film and quote lines from it all the time. Tracy Walter's lines about John Wayne "the true American" are priceless. And getting back at your boss. Comeon. admit it...you wanted to do that too!

Jesus, talk about hyperbole.
