The U.S. military involvement

Among my favorite scenes are those showing the involvement of the U.S. Army and the U.S. Air Force.

The Soviets and Cubans set up a road block with a Soviet airmobile BMD. Taken completely by surprise, the American military still has some spare assets. An old, armed Huey UH-60 helicopter blasts the roadblock with rockets. During the night, two American helicopters attack the occupying Soviet and Cuban invaders in the Colorado town of Calumet.

Later in the movie, there is a winter daytime scene out on the snow-covered plains of western Colorado involving Soviet T-72 tanks versus American early model M1 tanks.

I know the movie was supposed to be about the American kids, but it was a moral booster to show the American military kicking Soviet and Cuban butt.

Keep in mind in 1984 Hueys were still very much on use. I grew up not far from Fort Campbell. Saw lots of them. From Descriptions of the attack and from people in the movie the remaining military was engaged in the main Battle areas. As mr. Mason put it..."you're 40 miles behind enemy lines"
