Dialogue by Mr. Mason - "People waking up with their throats cut"

What was Mr. Mason talking about when he told the Wolverines, "Don't go to Calumet no more. There are people waking up with their throats cut. Word has it it's you" ?

1) The Wolverines are accused of these murders?

2) The Wolverines had their throats cut and are dead?

3) Something I have not considered ?

I think the Soviets and Cubans were spreading propaganda that the Wolverines were killing people in their sleep, but yeah, the way it's delivered is kind of confusing, and could sound like the Wolverines were being killed in their sleep.

So if the Wolverines are waking up after their throats are cut doesn't that make them zombie Wolverines?

reply

At this point in the movie. The Wolverines hadn't named themselves.

People were waking up with their throats cut. I'm thinking that the Soviets and Cubans were knocking on doors of people that might cause them trouble and kill them. And when people woke up in the morning. The Soviets and Cubans would blame the kids that where missing for the killings.

Also remember that when Jed, Matt and Robert went to town. The girl working at the drug store told Jed that the KGB knew that they were missing. And the KGB was looking for them.

What better way to get the public to turn on the missing kids. You kill a few people in town at night. And then tell the town that the missing high school kids killed them. So if you see them. Turn them in and be rewarded.

After all. Later in the movie. The mayor turned in his own son to the KGB.

I still think zombies would have been a good spin to the situation.

Isn't the following line: "That wasn't us" or something like it.

The commies are committing the murders but saying the kids (the wolverines) are doing it to give them a bad name. It's lies that are designed to discredit them and even get people to turn them in if they see them. The townsfolk are much less likely to see the kids as heroes if they are being convinced that they are killing their own people.

I drank what?
