Man i love this movie...i always have ever since i first saw it as a kid

early to mid 90s...I wanna say it was TNT MonsterVision with Joe Bob Briggs that i first saw it...Only this isn't a horror movie. I think it was a night where he had a special BONUS movie after a night of horrors...Not sure if it was MonsterVision, but it was for sure shown by Joe. I know this movie is 32 years old now..and beyond silly...but when i first saw it. This film was 10 years old...ok ok and still beyond silly 

Still it's crazy to think that when i first saw Red Dawn, just 10 years earlier that we lived in a time that people thought this was a real possibility. (being invaded and occupied)

Sadly now, All anyone thinks of is total annihilation by nuclear war when they think of the possibility of another world war. It's a fear i grew up with and still do.

I saw it in the theaters, my senior year, when it was the first PG-13 movie

As a lifelong knee-jerk liberal, it's a little embarrassing to me how much I love and am still affected by this blatantly jingoistic, overtly rightwing, absurdly melodramatic piece of near-propoganda

But dang, I still tear up at Toni's goodbye & Bella's final confrontation with the brothers. The actors became the characters so completely that, until THIS DAY, I never connected this with "Dirty Dancing." Johnny left Baby under a bush? Just don't see it.

The only character I see differently now is Robert. As a kid, I thought he was just a badass psycho. Now I see him as a tragic casualty of war. Robert was dead long before he faced down the Hind. In a sense, he's the most anti-war character in the film, with Bella a close second.

I am another lifelong knee-jerk liberal who liked the movie (and was motivated to buy camo fatigue clothing because of it). I guess there's a take-no-prisoner-and-rip-out-the-enemy's-guts warrior inside all of us!!!

If you know the right surplus store you can get that stuff even cheaper than regular clothes at goodwill. Although goodwill is also a place to buy camo.Although mostly that is hunter camo that a hunter outgrew.

It’s been years since I’ve found surplus stores with cheap prices. I’ve actually been thinking ones with good prices were a thing of the past.

Go to the big francise ones/ The independent ones can be expensive.

During the eighties there was the Sam's Army and Navy military surplus store chain.

I got a US duffle bag at goodwill last Saturday. $2.99 but it didn't have the pull rope to close it with on it. It still to me a good buy.

I look at Red Dawn as an action movie and nothing else. Good guys and bad guys. In many ways it is a western - the few good against the many evil. Just enjoy it. Because the bad guys lose and the good guys win (sort of).

I've always had a particular fondness for Red Dawn as well, though I didn't see it in theaters, but rather cable TV. It's in my top 10 of all time favorites, along with another Milius masterpiece, Conan The Barbarian.

I disagree with you however, that this movie is silly. It presented one possibility of an invasion of the USA, focusing on one small band of patriots in one small part of the country. I think the story harbors a big idea, and the individual characters are timeless.

I liked Tomorrow when the war began also.

It's free on Prime Video, so I added it to the watchlist.

We watched this tonight, and it was OK as a modern young adult fantasy. It really makes you appreciate Red Dawn 1984 even more, though. The big thing missing from Tomorrow vs. Red Dawn is the setup. That little preface explaining the world situation during the opening credits of Red Dawn, immediately grants it an air of seriousness. Tomorrow has no setup, other than an in-the-background news report on TV about 'talks' with some countries. In effect there is no explanation of why this is happening, and other obvious questions arise during viewing like where is Britain and the USA?

I liked it enough to see if there were any sequels made, since it's a book series in the vein of Hunger Games and Divergent etc..., but alas there hasn't been any sequels that I could find.

I watched Love and Monsters the other day on rental. It was a good movie as something from space caused all the insects to muitate and take over earth. A few people left. It had Michael Rooker and the girl that played young Gamora in the Avengers movie in it.I hope it goes on to a series movies.
