Out on DVD!

Warner Archive released this on DVD about six months ago. It's only available for purchase through their site, at http://www.wbshop.com/Reckless/1000179744,default,pd.htm. It's part of Warner's "on demand" series, but at least it's widescreen and stereo. The film actually looks and sounds fantastic.

I have to disagree. The Warner Archive copy did not have a good quality picture; it was definitely grainy with poor resolution. I thought maybe I was imagining it, so I compared the DVD to my 30-year old VHS copy which has been viewed many times. The VHS picture was visibly better. Audio seemed pretty good, but the DVD also would not play the movie trailer that is included as a bonus feature.

Although the DVD quality was disappointing, it is still worth having if you don't have a copy of this great film, or once your VHS copy wears out, which it eventually will.

You didn't come into this life just to sit around on a dugout bench, did ya?

I'm watching this on a PS3, which upconverts the picture. For me, it looks better than the VHS tape I had, and the laserdisc. However, when I watch it on my PC, it is a bit grainy, and some pixellation shows. It could be the difference in discs, since this is being pressed as ordered, supposedly. The trailer plays for me. In any case, it's at least out there for people to enjoy now. I remember three generation down taped copies of TV shows, where it was so washed out you had a hard time figuring out what was going on, so I can take pixellation and grain.
