Johnny

Was anyone else a little bit uncomfortable with the couple of scenes in which Johnny grabbed Tracy's arm and kind of jerked her around?
Or when they're first hooking up, and she's pretty clearly refusing (albeit halfheartedly), but he ignores her, or forces himself into her house?
Maybe it's just because it's an 80s movie?

They were playing "cat & mouse" games.

I did not like it when he jerked her around, but I thought he seemed really careful to not force her into sex. Maybe forced himself into her house a little...

Insist on yourself. Never imitate.

I just recently saw this again. I have to agree with the OP. Although I liked them together, I remember somebody asking would they have lasted & that is one of the reasons that I say no. Johnny had some anger issues.

As much as I love this movie, it always disturbed me to see Johnny grab her arm that way. I liked them together too, very much. But he comes off as violent and controlling in those scenes. That's why I love it whenever he smiles in the movie.

It's definitely understandable, considering his background and the way he was raised. The school made mention of it in his file, but no one ever followed up on it as far as counseling. I bet he got some of his aggression out when he played football, but ultimately it just was too conformist for him.

I agree- I thought he man handled her a bit too much and then later when he holds her over the edge of that look-out and she cuts her face on the chain. He was too rough. I also was turned off by him licking her face with his tongue when they were making out. Turn-off!
