Gay?

Somersault Maugham was gay, so is Bill Murray gay? Or is his character gay? I would assume that a gay guy would write gay characters. I'm not saying Bill's character is overtly gay. Is he "on the down low"? Does that explain his actions with the prostitute and his flowery behaviour? I think it does. I think gay guys, when they write straight characters, they secretly believe they're gay and "on the down low." What do other lovers of this gay film think?

shush, little person. go find somewhere else to play.

I have a feeling that this person is so confused that he or she wonders if everything is gay, holding off the inevitable and devastating question that he or she is gay.
(To answer your question: No, Bill Murray's character isn't gay. Those were women in his life. He fell in love with one and then fell...nevermind).

I think you're on to something.

But Somerset Maugham was a man, so maybe all the women were secretly men. And he was British, so maybe all the people were secretly British.

Wow, you've busted this thing wide open!

There's nothing in the book or film to suggest Larry is gay.

The only possible gay character would be Elliot Templeton (played by Denholm Elliott).

Somerset Maugham does feature in the 1946 version as an "asexual narrator".

Sexuality probably wasn't on Maugham's mind when he wrote the story.

Why is it conservatives always not seeing how gay they are accuse everything they don't understand as being gay?

Like, because a guy chooses to go meet the worlds heads of intelligence as opposed to playing paintball and going further in debt he's gay.

Because Ash has had butt sex with the writer, the characters in the book must be gay.

Well, since he's that close to the writer I wonder why he didn't ask him self lol.

Careful Ash, this is how Larry Craig got caught up.

I love the novel, and I've read critiques of it stating that if you read between the lines, Larry is probably Gay. I forget the arguments, but they made a good case.

I've also read the book and there is no case being made of Larry being a homosexual. Larry was described as sexually naive, which given the era the movie (and the book) are made it isn't too surprising. Between his relative lack of experience and his spiritual journey it's not difficult to understand why he isn't a walking hard-on that most movie goers expect today from a leading man.
